French Tourists Fall Victim to Elaborate Scam in Marrakech

A couple from France recently experienced a sophisticated financial scam while vacationing in Marrakech, resulting in the theft of their bank cards and approximately €25,000 in cash. The incident unfolded shortly after the tourists from the city of Bourges arrived in Morocco at the end of March. Initially, they enjoyed a luxurious stay complete with premium services, including a private driver and guided excursions. However, their dream holiday quickly turned into a nightmare due to a well-orchestrated criminal scheme.

According to a report by the French newspaper La Dépêche, the couple's serene vacation atmosphere was exploited by a criminal network. They were approached by a woman who offered them a misleading scheme to recover part of their trip expenses and benefit from future promotional deals.

The scammer required them to insert their bank cards into a payment device, which she claimed was necessary for processing their refunds. Unbeknownst to the unsuspecting tourists, this was a ploy to capture their banking information, leading to the unauthorized withdrawal of funds from their accounts.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for travelers to remain vigilant and cautious, especially when engaging with strangers during their vacations. It highlights the importance of safeguarding personal financial information and being wary of offers that seem too good to be true.
