French-Algerian Influencer Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Defamation in Morocco

Influencer Faces Legal Consequences for Online Content

The Marrakech Court of First Instance has handed down a stringent sentence to a French-Algerian influencer, referred to by the initials W.Y., on June 22, 2026. This individual has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment along with a fine of 2,000 dirhams, following a legal examination of a case that involved the dissemination of digital content targeted at Moroccan citizens and a public institution protected by law.

According to sources from Barlamane.com, the accused appeared in court while in custody after posting viral messages on her TikTok account during her stay in the vibrant city of Marrakech. The origins of this case lie in content shared across various social media platforms, which, as per the findings of the investigation, included "defamatory and offensive remarks directed at Moroccan citizens" as well as "explicit accusations of corruption and preferential treatment against public officials in the execution of their duties related to traffic regulations."

Arrest at Marrakech-Menara Airport

The competent prosecutor's office initiated a judicial inquiry, prompting a national search notice for the influencer. The magistrates determined that the allegations against her included defamation, insults, and violations against a public institution governed by law. On June 13, police services at Marrakech-Menara Airport apprehended the French national as she was preparing to board a flight to France, executing the search warrant issued against her.

The evidence presented in court indicates that she had published digital content containing "attacks directed at Moroccan citizens" and "allegations of corruption aimed at public officials," which ultimately led judicial authorities to pursue legal action and bring her before the court for judgment.
