Influencer Faces Legal Consequences for Online Content
The Marrakech First Instance Court has sentenced a French influencer of Algerian descent, known by the initials W.Y., to a year of imprisonment along with a fine of 2,000 dirhams. This ruling was made on Monday, June 22, 2026, following a case that revolved around the dissemination of digital content that targeted Moroccan citizens and a public institution protected by law.
The accused appeared in court while in custody, having published viral messages on her TikTok account during her stay in the historical city of Marrakech. The case originated from content spread across various social media platforms, which, according to the findings of the investigation, contained "defamatory and offensive remarks towards Moroccan citizens" as well as "explicit accusations of corruption and preferential treatment against public officials while executing their duties in accordance with traffic regulations."
The competent public prosecutor ordered a judicial investigation, which led to the issuance of a nationwide search warrant for the influencer. The judges determined that the allegations included defamation, slander, and attacks on a public institution governed by law.
On Saturday, June 13, police at Marrakech-Menara Airport apprehended the French national as she was preparing to board a flight to France. At thirty years old, she was arrested under the search warrant issued against her. The evidence presented in the case supported claims that she had published digital content that included "attacks directed at Moroccan citizens" and "allegations of corruption directed at public officials," prompting judicial authorities to pursue legal action and bring her before the court.
