Super Falcons Honored with Cash and Housing Rewards for 2025 WAFCON Triumph
In a grand ceremony held in Rabat, Morocco, the Nigerian Federal Government, represented by the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), officially presented the promised rewards to the Super Falcons, celebrating their outstanding victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). This event took place just prior to the team's opening match in the 2026 WAFCON, where they aim to defend their championship title against Malawi.
The NFF announced the rewarding ceremony on their official social media platform, detailing the significant accolades bestowed upon the players. Each member of the Super Falcons received a cash award of $100,000, which has already been deposited into their individual bank accounts, in addition to a three-bedroom apartment provided under the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Housing Estate initiative. The technical staff accompanying the team will also share in these rewards, underscoring the collective achievement of the squad.
The announcement of these rewards had been made by President Bola Tinubu immediately following the Super Falcons' WAFCON victory, which included the granting of national honors to the players. However, the distribution of the houses was postponed for almost a year due to necessary administrative processes. NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko explained that the timing of the presentation was strategically aligned with the team's gathering for the forthcoming tournament, aiming to boost the morale of the players as they embark on their campaign to secure a record-extending 11th continental title.
As the defending champions, the Super Falcons are set to face off against Malawi, and subsequently Zambia and Egypt in Group C of the tournament. The WAFCON, which runs from July 26 to August 16, 2026, in Morocco, also serves as the qualifying stage for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the top four teams gaining direct entry into the prestigious event.
