Exploring Affordable Sunny Destinations: 2026 Holiday Index Reveals Surprising Savings

Discover How Your Holiday Budget Stretches Further in 2026

A recent price overview has unveiled that Norwegian holiday money can stretch significantly further at various popular sunny destinations. The most notable differences are observed in Morocco, Turkey, and Bulgaria, according to the FOREX Holiday Index 2026, which compares the cost levels across more than 20 sought-after vacation spots for sun and beach holidays. The findings indicate that many Norwegians can enjoy considerably more value for their money by opting for locations outside the priciest tourist areas in Europe.

The study identifies Agadir in Morocco as the most budget-friendly destination, with a cost level measuring a mere 42% of that in Oslo. Following closely are Antalya in Turkey and Sunny Beach in Bulgaria, both of which also present attractive pricing for travelers.

Understanding the Price Variations Across Destinations

Several popular Greek islands offer prices that are approximately 30 to 35 percent lower than those in Norway, with Crete, Rhodes, and Corfu highlighted as destinations where holiday budgets can significantly extend compared to home. In Italy, however, price levels fluctuate more dramatically; Sicily is around 30 percent cheaper than Oslo, while Sardinia is closer to Norwegian prices. The price differences are even less pronounced on the picturesque islands of Santorini and along the Amalfi Coast.

The report indicates that many of the most financially advantageous destinations are located along the Atlantic coast. For instance, the Algarve in Portugal is about 36 percent cheaper than Oslo, while Agadir in Morocco leads the list with nearly a 60 percent lower cost of living, offering travelers incredible savings.

Travelers are advised by FOREX to remain vigilant regarding local fees, tourist taxes, and payment solutions that could influence the overall holiday cost. Despite the convenience of card payments, cash is still prevalent in several countries. Therefore, those planning trips to Morocco and various Mediterranean nations should familiarize themselves with local payment regulations and potential fees prior to departure.

FOREX emphasizes that currency exchange surcharges, ATM fees, and other payment-related costs can inflate holiday expenses if not planned for in advance.

Here are the most affordable sunny destinations according to the 2026 index:

  • Agadir, Morocco (42)
  • Antalya, Turkey (54)
  • Sunny Beach, Bulgaria (58)
  • Saranda-Ksamil, Albania (59)
  • Parga, Greece (62)
  • Algarve, Portugal (64)
  • Bodrum, Turkey (65)
  • Rhodes, Greece (66)
  • Corfu, Greece (67)
  • Alicante, Spain (68)

Oslo is set at an index of 100, serving as a reference point in this comparison.
