El Salvador's National Football Team Adjusts FIFA Schedule Amid Changes

The Salvadoran Football Federation (FESFUT) has officially announced alterations to the national team's schedule for the upcoming FIFA date, following the cancellation of a friendly match against Morocco. Instead of facing the African team, La Selecta will now compete against Qatar on June 6 in the United States. This change was confirmed by FESFUT president Yamil Bukele, who elaborated that the decision was made in accordance with FIFA regulations that prohibit a national team from playing matches on different continents during the same FIFA date, rendering acceptance of the Moroccan proposal unfeasible.

Originally, the match against Morocco was set for June 3 in Maryland. However, the Moroccan federation communicated that they would not have all their players available due to international commitments, injuries, and league schedule adjustments. As an alternative, they proposed to move the match to African territory, covering travel expenses. Despite this offer, Salvadoran officials chose to adhere to their original plans, which include two friendly matches within the same region. Bukele remarked, “We would have liked to play that match, but regulatory provisions and logistics prevent it.”

The upcoming match against Qatar is now a crucial component of the national team’s preparation. However, it has been reported that the match will not be televised, a decision made by Qatari football authorities. This engagement will allow La Selecta to maintain competitive momentum in anticipation of future international challenges. Throughout this year, the team has demonstrated improvements in performance, achieving positive results in recent friendlies.

Moreover, FESFUT has indicated that they will soon announce the second opponent that El Salvador will face during this international window, thereby completing their preparation schedule.
