Dominican Republic's Commitment to Morocco's Territorial Integrity
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic, Alfredo Pacheco Osoria, has publicly reiterated his country's unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the contested Sahara region. This declaration was made during a significant meeting with Mohamed Ould Errachid, the Speaker of the House of Councilors of Morocco, on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Istanbul from April 15 to 19, 2026.
In his remarks, Pacheco Osoria emphasized the growing international consensus and the momentum within the United Nations that affirm Morocco's claims to territorial integrity. He articulated that this development not only strengthens the Dominican Republic's belief in Morocco's cause but also highlights the credibility of its position on the issue. The speaker reaffirmed the Dominican Republic's steadfast commitment to supporting Morocco's sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Southern Provinces, which are often at the center of diplomatic discussions regarding the Sahara.

Pacheco Osoria further expressed intent to enhance the positive trajectory of relations between the Dominican Republic and Morocco. He proposed a framework for bolstering parliamentary dialogue, which includes facilitating exchanges of visits and expertise, as well as consolidating mechanisms for coordination and cooperation on shared interests. This initiative aims to foster closer ties between the two nations, enabling collaborative efforts both bilaterally and within broader international parliamentary contexts.
In response, Errachid acknowledged the high-quality relations that have developed between the two countries over recent years, noting that these have been characterized by a series of official visits that reflect a positive dynamic. He stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation in further strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced partnership mechanisms. This partnership is envisioned to broaden trade and investment opportunities, thereby promoting sustainable development and mutual interests.
Errachid expressed his appreciation for the Dominican Republic's supportive stance regarding Morocco's territorial integrity, particularly its endorsement of the autonomy plan as the only viable solution to the protracted conflict over the Sahara, in line with Security Council Resolution 2797.
