Dominica Commends Morocco's Sovereignty Over Western Sahara at UN Meeting

Dominica's Support for Morocco's Territorial Integrity

At a recent session of the United Nations Committee of 24 held in Managua, Nicaragua, the Commonwealth of Dominica praised the growing international momentum supporting Morocco's territorial integrity and national sovereignty over Western Sahara. Ambassador Philbert Aaron, the Permanent Representative of Dominica to the United Nations, emphasized during the regional conference that this dynamic is exemplified by the opening of consulates in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, as well as the expansion of diplomatic, political, and economic activities by several nations in the southern regions of Morocco.

Ambassador Aaron also lauded the historic adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 in 2025, considering it a significant boost to the political process that is exclusively based on Morocco's autonomy initiative under its sovereignty. The diplomat highlighted discussions that took place among Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the Polisario Front, which were organized in Washington and Madrid, based on the Moroccan proposal for autonomy.

Moreover, he expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General's Personal Envoy to Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, and the United States' initiatives aimed at facilitating this political process. He urged all parties to seize this "historic opportunity" to reach a definitive political solution to the longstanding regional conflict that has persisted for half a century.

Dominica also reaffirmed the importance of respecting the ceasefire, commending Morocco's ongoing commitment to stability and its full cooperation with the MINURSO mission. In conclusion, Ambassador Aaron highlighted the socio-economic and developmental dynamism unfolding in Morocco's southern regions, attributing it to the new development model launched by Morocco in 2015.
