Cultural Renaissance in Fez
The Cultural Freedom Complex in Fez is set to reclaim its position as a vibrant hub for cultural activities and events, following years of closure due to extensive renovation and enhancement works. This long-awaited reopening is met with enthusiasm from cultural stakeholders, community members, and the residents of the city, known for its rich intellectual heritage.
The first event to be held at the complex will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, featuring an informational session organized by the municipality of Fez in collaboration with the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Sharif Agency. This gathering will showcase the agency's achievements in Jerusalem, attended by notable officials, elected representatives, and cultural activists.
This occasion carries special significance, not only due to its association with the Jerusalem issue—an important matter deeply rooted in the hearts of Moroccans—but also as a symbol of the revitalization of one of Fez’s most prominent cultural venues, which had been closed for years. The renovations aimed at modernizing its facilities and improving the cultural reception and engagement environment.
The agenda for the informational session includes welcoming guests, a tour of the accompanying exhibition, the performance of the national anthem, and recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Official speeches will be delivered by Abdel Salam Bekali, the president of the Fez Municipal Council, and Mohamed Salim Al-Sharqawi, the director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Sharif Agency.
Additionally, the event will feature a performance titled "From Fez to Jerusalem" presented by children from the "Hap" application platform, aimed at engaging youth. A video presentation will document the collaborative efforts between the Fez municipality and the agency, alongside the formal exchange of partnership agreements to support projects in Jerusalem.
The event will conclude with a ceremony honoring participants and a group photo, creating an atmosphere that reflects the revival of cultural and institutional activities at the Cultural Freedom Complex, which has long served as a venue for seminars, artistic performances, and intellectual discussions in Fez.
