Celebrating Excellence in School Sports
The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports recently held a prestigious ceremony in Rabat to recognize outstanding achievements in school sports. This event, themed "Shining Together: Excellence, Commitment, and Success," coincided with the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, celebrated annually on April 6.
In collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Federation of School Sports (FRMSS), the ceremony honored students who received excellence scholarships as well as national, continental, and international championship winners. Additionally, teachers who excelled in national competitions were acknowledged, along with the provincial administrations and institutions most committed to the "Sport-Studies" programs.
Among the students, seven exceptional individuals were awarded excellence scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year, each valued at 12,000 dirhams annually over three years, culminating in a total of 36,000 dirhams per recipient. Encouragement scholarships were also granted to students who delivered impressive performances in international competitions.
Furthermore, ten teachers were recognized with the top Excellence Award, each receiving a scholarship of 25,000 dirhams. Five additional teachers ranked second received 20,000 dirhams, while another five who placed third were awarded 15,000 dirhams. The ceremony also recognized the three provincial administrations with the highest number of "Sport-Studies" programs, which included Rabat, Kénitra, and El Kelaâ des Sraghna.
In his address, Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Mohamed Saad Berrada, emphasized the importance of integrating sports into education to help students develop life skills. He noted that fostering a culture of effort and enhancing concentration capabilities lead to positive academic outcomes. The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to identify and nurture talent at school, aiming to train future champions through comprehensive excellence pathways. The number of students enrolled in "Sport-Studies" programs has surged to 10,000, compared to just 1,700 in 2021.
Moreover, he stressed the necessity of increased investment in sports at all levels to achieve the goals of educational reform, which includes mobilizing essential resources and supporting students in developing their abilities.
Abdesselam Mili, Director of School Sports Promotion at the ministry and Deputy President of FRMSS, remarked that this initiative recognizes the hard work and successes that have emerged, particularly the rise of champions from school sports who have earned world titles. The event reflects a continuous commitment to promote school sports and inspire younger generations, who are now poised to represent Morocco in international competitions.
The ceremony was attended by numerous educational officials from various provinces across the Kingdom and also paid tribute to notable sports and media figures who have contributed to the development and visibility of school sports both nationally and internationally.
