Introduction of Smart Patrols in Casablanca
On Saturday, the police precinct of Casablanca welcomed the launch of two innovative smart patrols, "Amane" and "Madar", as part of the national police force's strategy to modernize operational capabilities and enhance the effectiveness of ground interventions. This initiative by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) is aimed at integrating cutting-edge technology into law enforcement operations, thereby ensuring a more responsive and efficient police presence on the streets of Casablanca.
Advanced Technology Behind the Patrols
According to the DGSN, the "Amane" patrol represents a groundbreaking model developed entirely by Moroccan technical and engineering experts. This vehicle is outfitted with a state-of-the-art integrated visual surveillance system featuring 360-degree cameras. These cameras are linked in real-time to automatic license plate recognition applications and facial recognition technology, allowing for instantaneous visual checks during public patrols. Furthermore, the system is directly connected to command and coordination rooms as well as operational units via a large screen installed within the vehicle, thereby playing a pivotal role in traffic management and crime prevention.
Similarly, the "Madar" patrol has been launched as a mobile smart surveillance platform, converting standard vehicles into high-tech security units utilizing the same artificial intelligence algorithms. This innovative platform includes a uniquely designed emergency light system created through 3D printing technology, which houses high-definition cameras capable of accurately detecting vehicle movements across six lanes of traffic simultaneously. Additionally, it is equipped with a central panoramic camera that can rotate fully in under three seconds to ensure complete coverage of blind spots. The vehicle also features a powerful integrated signaling system behind the windshield and in the bumper, ensuring optimal visibility during operations.
In a press statement marking this occasion, Police Officer Abderrazak Safsafi, acting head of the Central Command and Coordination Post (PCCC) at the Casablanca Police Prefecture, emphasized that the "Amane" and "Madar" smart vehicles, developed as part of a 100% Moroccan project, offer innovative technological solutions that leverage AI for mobile surveillance and control. He highlighted that the deployment of these two platforms is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the police vehicle fleet, improve services provided to citizens, and enhance the overall effectiveness of security operations.
Officer Safsafi further explained that these mobile units support teams deployed in the field by ensuring real-time data collection and analysis, enabling rapid responses to various incidents. He added that this technology significantly boosts the protection of people and property, reinforcing the security framework through the modernization of intervention tools tailored to meet current demands.
The new patrols come with a refreshed visual identity, a geolocation system, and direct access to the DGSN's central database via an onboard terminal. The introduction of these vehicles follows the completion of development phases, field testing, and training of the teams responsible for their operation.
The rollout of the "Amane" and "Madar" smart patrols, which began this week in Rabat and Tangier, will gradually expand to various cities across the Kingdom. This initiative is part of the DGSN's ongoing efforts to incorporate advanced technologies into policing, enhance the quality of services offered to citizens, and prepare security services ahead of major international events that the Kingdom will host, including the 2030 World Cup.
