Casablanca Stock Exchange Experiences a Downturn

On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Casablanca Stock Exchange concluded its trading day on a negative note, with its primary index, the MASI, declining by 0.22% to close at 17,539.62 points. This downturn reflects the ongoing volatility in the market, as investors respond to various economic indicators and sector performances.

The MASI 20 index, which tracks the 20 most liquid stocks, also fell, recording a decrease of 0.11% to 1,301.16 points. Additionally, the MASI ESG index, which highlights companies with the best Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ratings as determined by Moody’s ESG Solutions, slipped by 0.06% to 1,243.72 points. The MASI Mid and Small Cap index, which focuses on the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises listed on the exchange, mirrored this trend, losing 0.22% to finish at 1,748.02 points.

Internationally, the FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index and the FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index closed positively, gaining 0.41% to settle at 17,051.3 points and 0.29% to reach 15,161.59 points, respectively. However, specific sectors within the Moroccan market struggled, particularly the "Portfolio Companies – Holdings" sector, which experienced the steepest decline at 3.61%, followed by the "Transport" sector down by 2.48%, and the "Oil and Gas" sector which fell by 2.12%.

Conversely, certain sectors displayed resilience, with "Electricity" gaining 0.88%, "Telecommunications" increasing by 0.67%, and the "Forestry and Paper" sector up by 0.56%. Overall, trading activities on the Casablanca Stock Exchange exceeded 87.9 million dirhams, primarily concentrated in the central "Equities" market, dominated by notable transactions involving CIH (16.1 million dirhams), Attijariwafa Bank (11.05 million dirhams), and TGCC (9.11 million dirhams).

The total market capitalization stood at over 1,002.84 billion dirhams. On an individual stock level, the most significant declines were seen in Sanlam Maroc, which plummeted by 5.51% to 2,881 dirhams, followed by Microdata down 4.94% to 712 dirhams, and Réalisations Mécaniques falling 4.01% to 450 dirhams. Other notable declines included TotalEnergies Marketing Maroc and Delta Holding, which fell by 3.69% and 3.64%, respectively.

In a contrasting performance, Rebab Company saw an impressive increase of 6% to 93.29 dirhams, closely followed by Balima, which rose by 5.99% to 199.9 dirhams, and Involys up by 5.79% to 128 dirhams. Sonasid and Jet Contractors also posted gains of 2.94% and 2.9%, respectively, highlighting pockets of strength in a generally challenging market environment.
