Casablanca's Commitment to Ecological Transition
In a significant move towards ecological sustainability, the city of Casablanca has officially embarked on the development of its Climate Plan, underpinned by support from the World Bank. This initiative aligns with the city’s broader 2023-2028 Municipal Action Plan and reflects the metropolitan area's determination to balance ecological transition, territorial resilience, and sustainable development for its 3.2 million residents. By leveraging its membership in the C40 Cities network, Casablanca aims to adopt best international practices for climate action, ensuring a modern and resilient infrastructure that can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Strategic Framework for Urban Development
Led by Nabila Rmili, the president of the municipal council, alongside Vice President Abderrahim Outass who oversees international cooperation, this integrated roadmap is designed to lessen the city's carbon footprint while guiding future priority investments. The Climate Plan encompasses key urban management areas, including mobility, water and waste management, energy efficiency, urban planning, infrastructure, and biodiversity preservation. Following the official launch on July 3, 2026, municipal teams and World Bank experts have commenced the crucial phase of data collection and sector diagnostics, aiming to present preliminary results by the end of September 2026. These initial findings will pave the way for the finalization of a comprehensive climate strategy for the metropolis, underscoring Casablanca's commitment to creating a more sustainable and livable urban environment.
