Canada's Support for Morocco's Autonomy Plan
In a significant diplomatic development, Canada has officially recognized Morocco's autonomy plan as a viable foundation for achieving a mutually accepted resolution to the ongoing regional dispute concerning the Sahara. This affirmation was articulated in a statement from the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which followed a recent telephone discussion between Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
The statement, which was subsequently disseminated by the Moroccan news agency MAP, highlighted Ottawa's acknowledgment of the Sahara issue's critical importance to Morocco.
