BYD Expands Its Electric Vehicle Offerings in Morocco
Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD, represented in Morocco by its exclusive importer Auto Nejma, has officially launched two new models in Casablanca: the "ATTO 3 EVO" and the "SEALION 5." This dual introduction aims to accelerate the energy transition for Moroccan drivers by targeting both the zero-emission and high-range hybrid segments. The unveiling of these models marks a significant milestone in the electrification of Morocco's automotive fleet, as they are designed to cater to the diverse driving habits of local consumers, who often alternate between daily urban commutes and longer intercity travels.
The BYD "ATTO 3 EVO" is built on the company’s innovative "e-Platform 3.0" and offers a fully electric driving experience. This refreshed SUV boasts a more dynamic design and a modernized interior, featuring a central rotating display and intelligent voice commands. In terms of range, the ATTO 3 EVO is positioned as an efficient urban vehicle, with an impressive operational range of up to 710 kilometers in the WLTP urban cycle, making it an ideal choice for city dwellers.
Sealion 5: Versatile Hybrid Technology
In contrast, the "SEALION 5" showcases the versatility of BYD's "Super Hybrid DM-i" technology, which combines a thermal engine with an electric motor to optimize fuel consumption, claimed to be as low as 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers. This hybrid SUV offers a purely electric range of 120 kilometers for city driving, while its combined range can extend to an impressive 1,016 kilometers in mixed WLTP conditions, effectively alleviating range anxiety for drivers on longer journeys.
Both vehicles leverage BYD's proprietary "Blade Battery," a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery known in the automotive industry for its durability and high safety standards in case of impact. To support this launch, Auto Nejma is expanding its national network across major cities in Morocco, including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, Agadir, Fes, and Oujda. The company places a strong emphasis on after-sales service to reassure prospective buyers, offering a manufacturer’s warranty of six years (or 150,000 kilometers) on the vehicles and eight years (or 200,000 kilometers) on the batteries. Furthermore, they highlight a 95% availability rate for spare parts, ensuring competitive maintenance costs.
Adil Bennani, General Director of Auto Nejma, stated, "Their arrival marks a new stage in BYD's development in Morocco. These two models reflect our ambition to make electrified mobility more accessible by providing solutions tailored to the needs of Moroccan drivers, whether they prefer fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles." The new models are now available in the network, with launch prices starting at 299,900 MAD for the SEALION 5 Super Hybrid and 355,900 MAD for the ATTO 3 EVO electric.
