Bilal Nadir had just left the mosque when he discovered a flood of messages on his phone. In March 2025, the then 21-year-old midfielder was called up to the Moroccan national team for the first time, fulfilling a significant dream for his family. National coach Walid Regragui, who nominated him, had previously led Morocco to the semifinals of the World Cup in 2022, marking a historic achievement as the first African team to do so. Growing up in Nice, Bilal was inspired to become a footballer after watching older boys play on the local pitches. His mother enrolled him in a football club, and by the age of six, he was part of the youth setup at OGC Nice. However, he made his professional debut with Olympique Marseille, where he faced two significant setbacks. A torn cruciate ligament sidelined him for nearly the entire year of 2024. Additionally, in October 2025, he collapsed on the pitch just ten minutes after being substituted into a league match against SCO Angers for reasons that remain unclear. Although he was conscious, he had to be carried off the field. During these challenging times, he found support from his family, his Muslim faith, and notably from top coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is now with Tottenham.
HSV had been monitoring Nadir's progress during his recovery. When he chose not to extend his contract with Marseille, HSV seized the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer. With his exceptional left foot, the talented player is expected to play a crucial role in helping HSV achieve its ambitious goals.
