Benteler Opens Advanced Automotive Plant in Morocco to Supply Stellantis

Benteler Expands Operations with New Facility in Kenitra

The automotive components manufacturer Benteler, known for its significant presence in Spain with plants in Vigo and Mos, has officially inaugurated its new factory in Kenitra, Morocco. This facility is set to supply various components, including those for the upcoming Stellantis vehicle produced in Vigo. The new plant commenced operations just one year after construction began in the Atlantic Free Zone, representing an investment of approximately €40 million and the creation of 300 direct jobs. Starting this summer, the factory will produce front and rear bumpers, torsion axles, impact bars, and control arms, among other essential components for an international automotive manufacturer.

Benteler's President for Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa emphasized the strategic importance of the new center, stating, “With our new facility, we enhance our supply flexibility and reliability, producing where our customers are located.” This aligns with the company's broader strategy to optimize production and meet the growing demands of the automotive sector.

Support from Moroccan Government and Technological Advancements

Ryad Mezzour, the Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade, praised the investment made by Benteler, highlighting it as a testament to Morocco's appeal as a destination for leading international industrial companies. The Kenitra plant embodies Industry 4.0 principles, featuring a 3,200-ton cold forming press, advanced welding systems, 3D laser technology, and cathodic coating processes. Designed as a digital and connected manufacturing facility, it aligns with Benteler's vision of smart factories, similar to those in Vigo and its surrounding areas.

According to the company, Kenitra offers excellent framework conditions, including a skilled labor force, robust industrial infrastructure, a well-established automotive sector, and a geographically advantageous location with outstanding logistical capabilities. Ralf Göttel, the CEO of Benteler, underscored the significance of this plant in the group's growth and production strategy. Benteler Vigo recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, highlighting its contributions to the automotive industry, employing over 700 individuals across its facilities in Vigo, Mos, and now Morocco.

The German group has strategically invested in North Africa, similar to Stellantis, which operates a plant in Kenitra and another in Algeria. Moreover, Renault has established production centers in Morocco, attracting other component manufacturers like Forvia (formerly Faurecia), Lear, Magna (formerly Viza), and the Chinese company Citic, all of which have facilities in the Vigo area.
