Arab Parliament President Highlights the Importance of Investing in Technology

Investing in a Knowledge-Based Economy

Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, the President of the Arab Parliament, has emphasized the vital role of investment in a knowledge-based economy, particularly focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. He highlighted that the real challenge is no longer merely possessing technology but rather the capability to produce, localize, and develop the necessary legislation to safeguard societies from potential risks. Al-Yamahi made these assertions during his opening speech at the fourth parliamentary economic forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, which is being held in Marrakech from June 19 to 20, 2026.

Collaboration for Sustainable Development

In his address, Al-Yamahi stressed the importance of fostering dialogue and coordination between parliaments, international financial institutions, and the private sector. This collaboration is crucial for developing practical solutions to financing, development, investment, and technology transfer issues, which in turn will bolster efforts for shared development, stability, and prosperity. He pointed out that transforming the region's vast potential into tangible outcomes requires moving from dialogue to joint projects, thus enhancing economic, commercial, and investment linkages between countries. Such connections will contribute to building more resilient regional supply chains capable of withstanding global crises.

Furthermore, the President called upon parliaments to transcend their traditional legislative roles and actively participate in establishing regional consensus, supporting major economic initiatives, and keeping pace with the rapid transformations occurring worldwide. He reiterated the Arab Parliament's commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at establishing a more integrated and resilient Arab-Mediterranean-African partnership, founded on mutual interests, knowledge transfer, and enhanced investment in technology and infrastructure.
