Hassan II Stadium Reconstruction Gets Green Light

The Council of the City of Fes has officially endorsed a partnership agreement aimed at the reconstruction of the Hassan II Stadium with an estimated financial allocation nearing 400 million dirhams. This significant project has drawn contributions from various stakeholders, with the municipality of Fes contributing around 40 million dirhams, while the Fes-Meknes region and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation each contribute 100 million dirhams. Additionally, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports is set to inject 150 million dirhams into the project, emphasizing the commitment to enhance structured sports projects and bolster the region's sports infrastructure.

Project Scope and Objectives

The ambitious project, facilitated in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, the Fes-Meknes Prefecture, the Regional Council, the Fes Prefectural Council, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, will feature a range of modern amenities. These include seating areas for spectators, a natural grass playing field, locker rooms for players and referees, warm-up areas, medical and technical examination rooms, an information center, and necessary administrative and sanitary facilities. The reconstruction aims not only to revitalize the stadium but also to enhance the overall sporting experience for fans and athletes alike.

In conjunction with the stadium project, the council also approved a partnership agreement for the establishment of a new generation bus station in Fes, with a total investment of approximately 300 million dirhams, in which the municipality will invest 100 million dirhams. This initiative reflects Fes' strategic direction towards modernizing public transport facilities, improving service quality for both citizens and visitors, alleviating pressure on existing stations, and enhancing traffic flow in the city's primary access points.

Furthermore, the new bus station aims to enhance connectivity between Fes and other cities while fostering local economic growth and job creation. The facility will include waiting rooms, ticket offices, passenger loading and unloading zones, bus parking areas, taxi ranks, and screens displaying bus schedules and other travel-related information, all set across a sprawling six-hectare site in the jurisdiction of Ain Chkef (Moulay Yacoub Province).

Overall, the council's session also saw the approval of a partnership agreement to establish a football training center for the Wydad Fassi Sports Club with a budget exceeding 100 million dirhams, and an agreement for the reconstruction of the central market in Fes, with a financial outlay reaching 120 million dirhams. These initiatives collectively highlight the council's commitment to enhancing the urban landscape, improving infrastructure, and supporting local sports and commerce.
