Zakia Driouich, the Secretary of State, has reportedly decided to dismiss her driver following the revelation of a complaint lodged with the prosecutor's office on July 14. This document not only implicates her driver but also names her brother and an employee from a professional fishing association. The unfolding events have raised serious concerns regarding potential corruption within the fishing permit application process.
According to an article from Alyaoum24, an investor claimed to have sought authorization in 2024 to rebuild and renovate the fishing vessel named “Jebou Allah,” which is registered with the maritime fishing services in Agadir. In the context of following up on his application, the investor was allegedly contacted by a man who introduced himself as the driver of the Secretary of State. This driver invited the investor to the Halieutis trade fair, where he provided him with a personalized access badge.
During this event, the investor claims he met with the Secretary of State, who requested that he submit the necessary documents for the processing of his application. He asserts that he subsequently provided all the required paperwork. However, troubling allegations have emerged that the driver later solicited money from the investor, promising to expedite the review of his application. The complainant alleges that he handed over 200,000 dirhams at his residence in Salé.
Additionally, an employee from a professional fishing association is reported to have received 40,000 dirhams to facilitate the process, while the Secretary of State's brother allegedly demanded 120,000 dirhams in exchange for purported assistance. The complaint raises serious concerns, as it includes allegations of fraud, extortion, and influence peddling. The investor claims to possess audio recordings, emails, correspondence, and other documents that substantiate his accusations.
Despite the significant amounts of money exchanged, the investor states that he never received the necessary authorization and has not been able to recover his funds. This situation underscores the urgent need for transparency and accountability in governmental processes.
