In a significant development aimed at improving the quality of life for residents, Agadir has recently inaugurated four new community facilities as part of its Urban Development Program for 2020-2024. This initiative aligns with the celebrations marking the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day. The enhancements include a cultural center, two socio-educational centers, and a municipal indoor swimming pool, reflecting the government's commitment to providing better access to local services.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Aziz Akhannouch, the head of the government and president of the Agadir Municipal Council, who was joined by prominent officials such as Saïd Amzazi, the wali of the Souss-Massa region, and Karim Achengli, president of the Souss-Massa Regional Council. These projects are designed to bolster the cultural, social, and sports offerings available to the citizens of Agadir, thereby fostering a more vibrant community.
Among the newly inaugurated facilities is the Cheikh Maa El Aïnin Cultural Complex located in the Lakhiam neighborhood. This facility, constructed over two floors and covering a built area of 1,430 square meters (with a total covered area of 1,450 square meters), is intended to host various artistic and community activities. Managed by Al Omrane Souss-Massa, the project was realized with a total budget of 14 million dirhams, of which 6.87 million dirhams was allocated for construction. The construction began in October 2023 and was completed by June 2025, with the official handover occurring in April 2026.
Additionally, the Amsernat neighborhood has welcomed a three-level Social Activity Complex, built on 950 square meters with a total covered area of 1,500 square meters. This center is specifically designed for training, social guidance, and community engagement, funded through a partnership with the Agadir Territorial Commune, amounting to 8.5 million dirhams.
In the Riad Salam area, a new socio-educational facility combining a women's shelter and a youth center has also been inaugurated. This building features a built area of 750 square meters across two floors, offering spaces for learning and support for women and youth, with a total budget of 9 million dirhams. Construction started in October 2023 and was completed by November 2024, with the facility officially opening in April 2026.
Lastly, the sports infrastructure in Agadir has been enhanced by the addition of the Bensergao Wifaq indoor swimming pool. Spanning 2,300 square meters with an additional 4,000 square meters of outdoor facilities, this new pool includes a 25-meter by 12.5-meter swimming area with six lanes, seating for 180 spectators, a medical room, changing facilities, and a dining area. Construction for this project began in August 2022 and has now been completed.
