The wave of injuries continues to severely impact the stars of world football as we approach the FIFA World Cup 2026. The latest casualty is Achraf Hakimi, the captain and standout player of Morocco, who has sustained a right thigh injury that will prevent him from participating in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich.
Hakimi collapsed on the pitch after contesting a ball with Konrad Laimer during the dying minutes of the match, visibly grabbing the back of his right leg before leaving the field in pain. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) released a brief statement confirming that Hakimi will undergo treatment in the coming weeks due to the injury sustained during the match against Bayern Munich. Additionally, the club noted that goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier also suffered a thigh injury during training this morning and will be sidelined for several weeks.
If PSG manages to advance past Bayern, they will face either Arsenal or Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final scheduled for May 30. Hakimi, who finished sixth in last year’s Ballon d'Or voting, is expected to be a key player for Morocco in this summer's World Cup. Morocco, which made it to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup, will kick off their campaign on June 13 against Brazil.
