Major Upgrade for Morocco's High-Speed Train Stations
The ambitious project to upgrade the high-speed train line connecting Kenitra and Marrakech has entered a significant new phase, marked by the initiation of procurement processes for essential equipment at various train stations. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance the technical infrastructure of what is considered one of the most crucial railway projects in Morocco.
In a recent announcement, the National Office of Railways disclosed an open international tender for the supply and installation of elevators and escalators across several stations. The investment earmarked for this upgrade is approximately 180 million dirhams, excluding taxes, with the primary goal of elevating service quality for passengers and ensuring greater accessibility to various station facilities in adherence to the latest industry standards.
Phased Approach to Enhance Station Facilities
To ensure a more effective management of the construction works, the contract has been segmented into four distinct phases. The first phase focuses on equipping the "Hassan II" stadium station and the Casablanca airport station, with a budget nearing 46 million dirhams. The second phase involves the installation of elevators and escalators at the Casablanca South and Marrakech Kleyès stations, with an allocated budget of about 44 million dirhams.
The third phase will cater to several stations in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, along with technical centers and stations located in the Marrakech region, representing an investment of around 36 million dirhams. Meanwhile, the fourth phase has set aside nearly 54 million dirhams to complete the equipment of stations in the Casablanca region, making it the most substantial phase in terms of financial allocation.
The technical and financial bids for this project are expected to be opened on September 3, 2026, leading to the selection of the companies tasked with the construction works as per the established protocols.
This initiative is a part of a larger program aimed at expanding the high-speed rail network between Kenitra and Marrakech, which seeks to improve rail connectivity between major cities, enhance the capacity of the national network, and elevate the quality of transport services. This expansion is positioned to support Morocco's developmental projects and the international commitments the country is preparing to host in the coming years.
