Severe Heat Wave and Thunderstorms Forecasted
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a warning regarding an impending heat wave that is expected to affect several regions throughout the kingdom starting today, Friday, and continuing until next Sunday. This weather event will be accompanied by locally intense thunderstorms, which may also bring hail and strong wind gusts.
According to the alert, categorized as an "orange" vigilance level, temperatures are predicted to soar between 45°C and 47°C from Friday to Sunday in the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara, Taroudant, Tata, and Zagora.
During the same period, other regions such as Fqih Ben Salah, Qalaat Sraghna, Beni Mellal, Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane, Marrakech, Rhamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taounate, Wazan, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Khemisset, Jerrif, Taza, the interior of Laayoune, and Tarfaya are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C.
Additionally, the provinces of Essaouira and Safi will see temperatures between 39°C and 42°C during this heat wave, extending from today through next Sunday.
On Friday and Saturday, regions including Sidi Slimane, Ben Slimane, Chichaoua, Sidi Bennour, Berrechid, and Kenitra are anticipated to experience hot weather, with temperatures fluctuating between 40°C and 45°C, while Tiznit, Inzegane, Ait Melloul, and El Jadida will see temperatures ranging from 39°C to 42°C.
In conjunction with the heat wave, Oussard and Oued Ed-Dahab are expected to experience thunderstorms with rainfall between 40 mm and 50 mm, alongside the potential for hail and strong winds, starting from 2 PM until 11 PM today.
Moreover, thunderstorms with rainfall between 20 mm and 30 mm, possibly accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, are expected in the regions of Boulemane, Jerif, and Figuig between 5 PM and 11 PM during this period.
