Taroudant Records Record High Temperatures Amidst Summer Heatwave
On Friday, July 31, 2026, various regions across Morocco experienced a significant spike in temperatures, with multiple cities recording unprecedented heat levels. According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, the city of Taroudant topped the charts as the hottest city in the kingdom, reaching a scorching 48.6 degrees Celsius. Following closely were Ben Guerir at 47.7 degrees, Marrakech at 47.0 degrees, and Guelmim at 46.9 degrees, while the Agadir-Massira station reported 46.5 degrees Celsius.
This surge in temperatures coincides with the ongoing summer heatwave, prompting the General Directorate of Meteorology to announce that these high temperatures are expected to persist across many regions until Sunday. In response to the extreme weather conditions, meteorological authorities issued an orange alert warning, stating that temperatures could range between 45 to 47 degrees in regions such as Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara, Taroudant, Tata, and Zagora.
The heatwave's impact extends to several other areas, where temperatures are anticipated to be between 42 and 45 degrees in regions including Fkih Ben Salah, Kelaa Sraghna, Beni Mellal, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Marrakech, Rahamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taounate, and Meknes, among others. Additionally, coastal areas and nearby regions like Essaouira and Safi are expected to witness temperatures ranging from 39 to 42 degrees.
Furthermore, heightened temperatures will also be felt on Friday and Saturday in Sidi Slimane, Ben Slimane, Chichaoua, Sidi Bennour, Berrechid, and Kenitra, where temperatures will range between 40 to 45 degrees. The cities of Tiznit, Inzegane, and El Jadida are projected to experience temperatures between 39 and 42 degrees, necessitating caution and preparedness from the citizens during this extreme heat period.
