Celebrating Cinema in Tan-Tan
On May 7, 2026, Tan-Tan proudly inaugurated the second edition of the International Azora Film Festival, a vibrant celebration of cinematic art featuring a diverse lineup of screenings and professional meetings dedicated to the 7th art. This year's festival showcases a remarkable selection of 12 films competing for accolades from various countries including Morocco, Egypt, Mauritania, Tunisia, and Oman, thus highlighting the rich tapestry of cinematic expressions and artistic perspectives emerging from these different cultural landscapes.
The competition jury is comprised of esteemed Moroccan actors Hoyam Lamsisi and Mohamed Bouchaitt, with Tunisian filmmaker Younes Ben Hajria presiding over the panel. This edition pays special tribute to Ben Hajria in recognition of his significant contributions to documentary cinema and his unique visual storytelling that preserves cultural identity.
Festival director Amal Saadbouh emphasized to the press how such events invigorate the cultural and cinematic landscape of the region, enhancing its attractiveness and showcasing its potential to industry professionals and filmmakers seeking new shooting locations. The opening ceremony was marked by heartfelt tributes to Moroccan poet and writer Maïma Es-Sbai, celebrated for her impactful work in Hassani poetry, and to artist Najat Daoud, recognized for her artistic journey inspired by the Moroccan southern landscapes, blending memory, light, and imagination in her creations.
In addition to the official competition, the festival's agenda includes a range of parallel activities such as a masterclass focusing on video and artificial intelligence, alongside an acting workshop aimed at young participants eager to hone their skills in front of the camera.
