Significant Progress in Morocco's High-Speed Train Project Connecting Kenitra and Marrakech

Advancements in the High-Speed Rail Construction

On Friday, the National Office of Railways in Morocco announced substantial progress in the construction of the new high-speed train line connecting Kenitra and Marrakech, marking a year since the official launch by King Mohammed VI. This project is a cornerstone of the national rail program, demonstrating Morocco's capability to execute large-scale infrastructure initiatives that promote sustainable transportation and enhance economic competitiveness.

The high-speed rail line spans approximately 430 kilometers and has shown remarkable advancement, particularly in land acquisition efforts, where the majority of necessary properties have been successfully procured. This indicates a strong commitment from various stakeholders involved in this strategic project, ensuring its successful completion.

Construction and Engineering Developments

On the ground, civil engineering works are progressing rapidly across different segments of the route, with around 20 million cubic meters of excavation and filling completed. Notably, significant progress has been made in the construction of major structures, including the completion of 15 large bridges and three tunnels located at Casablanca Airport, Zenata, and Ain Atiq, stretching over a total of approximately 1.5 kilometers. Additionally, the initiation of various other engineering works is underway.

Regarding railway equipment, the office confirmed that operations are proceeding according to the established timeline, with millions of tons of essential materials, such as gravel, beams, and tracks, provided alongside advanced technical equipment to ensure the continuity of work meets the established standards. Concurrently, work has begun on some operational lines, accelerating the installation of tracks and preparing for the implementation of signaling systems, marking a gradual transition from the infrastructure phase to the technical equipment phase.

In terms of passenger stations, architectural designs have been finalized, with the first phases of construction set to commence in early 2026, encompassing all stations with an expected completion by mid-year. This project transcends its technical aspect, serving as a genuine economic lever, as approximately 150 companies have been mobilized, with a significant proportion being local stakeholders. This not only integrates the local business fabric into major projects but also fosters job creation.

This progress signals the onset of a new phase for Morocco in developing its transportation infrastructure, focusing on expanding the high-speed rail network and interlinking major economic hubs, aligning with developmental transformations and enhancing the country's attractiveness on both regional and international levels.
