Extreme Weather Conditions Anticipated in Morocco

In response to the soaring temperatures affecting the nation, Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange weather alert signaling a significant heatwave across various provinces from Wednesday through Saturday. This alert underscores the severity of the impending weather, with forecasts indicating that certain regions, particularly in the south and southeast, could experience extreme heat levels ranging from 45°C to as high as 47°C. This alarming situation is expected to peak from Wednesday to Friday in areas such as Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Taroudant, Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Aousserd.

Moreover, the intense heat is not confined solely to these areas. The provinces of Fquih Ben Salah, El Kelaa des Sraghna, and Beni Mellal are also projected to see temperatures escalating between 42°C and 45°C throughout the same period. The heatwave will not relent as it extends to Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khenifra, Taounate, Ouezzane, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, and Chichaoua, where temperatures will mirror the previous ranges from Thursday to Saturday. In coastal regions like Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan, temperatures are expected to remain dangerously high at around 42°C to 45°C on Thursday and Friday.

This extreme weather phenomenon poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations, and necessitates caution and preparedness. The meteorological bulletin has classified the situation at the orange vigilance level, alerting residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate the risks associated with such extreme heat.
