Sam Broadhurst Shines at International Series Morocco with Support from His Father Paul

Father-Son Duo at the International Series Morocco

Sam Broadhurst, a promising talent from England, is set to tee off at the International Series Morocco presented by Visit Morocco this week. What makes this event particularly special for him is the presence of his father, Paul Broadhurst, a distinguished six-time European Tour champion and a former Ryder Cup player. As a proud father, Paul not only brings his unwavering support but also a wealth of experience and wisdom that can be invaluable for Sam during this tournament.

Paul Broadhurst's illustrious career spans nearly two decades, during which he secured six titles on the European Tour and represented Europe at the prestigious Ryder Cup in 1991 at Kiawah Island. After turning 50, he continued to achieve remarkable success in senior golf, claiming two senior majors, including a memorable victory at the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie in 2016, where Sam notably served as his caddie.

Paul's Insights and Sam's Form

In a heartwarming role reversal, Paul Broadhurst now finds himself on the sidelines, content to let his son take the spotlight. "I try not to get involved too much," Paul stated, expressing his confidence in Sam's abilities. "He’s playing well. He had a good result last week, finishing in fourth place." While he maintains that he is on holiday, Paul’s extensive knowledge of the Red Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam adds a layer of support to Sam’s performance. “It’s a course I’ve been coming to for 30-odd years now and it’s always been one of my favorites,” he remarked, while also acknowledging that the game has evolved significantly since his playing days. "The distance these boys hit it, it’s a totally different golf course to the one I used to play. I love this golf course. It’s one of the best in the world.”

Sam enters this tournament with a strong momentum, having recently finished tied for fourth at the am green IGPL Bharath Classic in El Jadida. His preparation included two weeks of acclimatization in Morocco, where he also participated in the Asian Development Tour. "The game’s feeling pretty good," Sam shared, reflecting on his recent performance. "I’ve been out here two weeks now, so I should be used to the conditions. I felt like I’d struggled early season with my long game, but I worked hard the couple of weeks before, and it paid off last week. I’m hoping to do the same this week."

This trip represents a unique opportunity for Paul, who has faced injury setbacks throughout the year, to be a father and support his son without the burdens of long-distance travel. "This is the first opportunity my wife and I have had to see Sam play relatively close to the UK without traveling 15 hours," he noted, emphasizing the joy of being present in this moment.

For Sam, the blend of familial support and his father's extensive course knowledge is invaluable. "Dad doesn’t get much chance to watch me, and it’s good to have him here. If he can help me in any way, then I’m always going to listen," he concluded, underscoring the importance of this familial bond during a crucial time in his golfing career.
