Safi Unveils Urban Forest Development Project for 14 Million Dirhams

Launch of the Al Araâr Urban Forest Renovation in Safi

The city of Safi has officially initiated the development of the urban forest known as "Al Araâr," with an investment totaling approximately 14 million dirhams (MDH). This project marks a significant step towards enhancing green spaces and improving the quality of life in urban areas. The launch ceremony, held on a Wednesday, was led by Khatib El Hebil, the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, who was accompanied by local officials, including the governor of the Safi province, Mohamed Fettah, and the president of the Marrakech-Safi regional council, Samir Goudar.

Features and Objectives of the Urban Forest Project

Spanning an area of 22 hectares, the Al Araâr project aims to introduce modern facilities dedicated to leisure and sporting activities, thereby contributing to the ecological balance of the city. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to bolster infrastructure and enhance the economic appeal of the Safi province. During a site visit, officials also engaged in discussions regarding several strategic projects underway in the region, including the seawater desalination project, which is pivotal for providing drinking water to Marrakech, and the development of the new Atlantic port.

The meeting held at the OCP Group headquarters in Safi focused on providing detailed presentations on the progress of these significant infrastructural projects and their socio-economic impacts at both local and regional levels. The discussions underscored the strategic importance of various initiatives, including the industrial program of the OCP Group, particularly the Safi Phosphate Hub and Corridor projects. These initiatives align with a vision of integrated development aimed at fostering economic growth within the Safi province and reinforcing its position as a promising center for sustainable development in the Marrakech-Safi region.
