Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Invests 1.3 Billion Dirhams to Boost Regional Dynamics
Rachid El Abdi, the president of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, has announced a significant investment of 1.3 billion dirhams aimed at enhancing regional infrastructure and economic attractiveness. This initiative is designed to address disparities among the 90 municipalities within the region, with particular emphasis on benefiting 63 of these communities. During a recent roundtable held at the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL), El Abdi outlined the ongoing projects and future ambitions for the region, highlighting the strategic importance of these investments.
In his remarks, El Abdi emphasized the focus on youth engagement, particularly through the establishment of local sports fields, which currently stand at 43% completion of the set objectives. He also pointed out the efforts made to rejuvenate rural centers, thereby contributing to a balanced development across different areas. "We have succeeded in enhancing these rural centers, reducing developmental disparities compared to other zones," he stated, underscoring a collaborative approach with various governmental departments.
On the economic front, the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region has initiated substantial projects within its industrial activity zones, including the development of 200 hectares in Aïn Johra and 30 hectares in Bouknadel, which are expected to create approximately 7,000 jobs. El Abdi reminded attendees that this region is the second largest economic hub in Morocco, accounting for around 16% of the national GDP and contributing 12% to the country’s trade balance. "Our region has established itself as an attractive center for both tourism and production, particularly in the services and agriculture sectors," he remarked.
Politically, El Abdi, who is also a member of the political bureau of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), noted the ongoing renewal within his party, which he believes is essential for producing quality political capital. He expressed a clear ambition for the party to attain the premiership as part of a democratic alternation process. Acknowledging some shortcomings, which he equated to challenges faced by any governmental experience, El Abdi praised the achievements made and the mobilization of party members. He concluded by expressing his hope for a woman to lead the government, viewing it as a significant advancement in Morocco's political modernization journey.
