Strengthening Diplomatic Ties Between Morocco and Russia

A delegation from the Federation Council of Russia, led by Senator Alexandre Dvoïnykh, recently conducted a working visit to Morocco from April 21 to April 24. This visit was characterized by discussions aimed at enhancing interparliamentary cooperation and developing partnerships across various strategic sectors. The trip was officially noted in a press release issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 5.

The Russian delegation included notable figures such as Igor Zoubarev and Artem Cheïkine. During their visit, the officials engaged with key Moroccan political figures, including Abdelkader Salama, the First Vice-President of the House of Councillors, and Mohamed Sabbari, the First Vice-President of the House of Representatives. They were accompanied by members of the Morocco-Russia interparliamentary friendship group, headed by Fatima El Hassani.

The discussions primarily revolved around developing relationships between the legislative institutions of both nations, focusing on strengthening exchanges between specialized committees and friendship groups. During this meeting, Alexandre Dvoïnykh conveyed a message from Valentina Matvienko to Mohamed Ould Rachid, inviting him to visit Russia later in the year.

Collaborative Efforts in Agriculture and Beyond

On April 22, the delegation met with Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, and held discussions on the sidelines of the International Agricultural Show (SIAM) in Meknès with Ahmed El Bouari, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests. The final day of the visit, April 24, saw the Russian parliamentarians meet with Chakib Alj, the President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) in Casablanca.

Concluding the visit, both parties expressed a strong desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in several areas, including agriculture, maritime fishing, water resources, energy, culture, and education. They agreed to maintain ongoing contact to facilitate these collaborative efforts.
