Patrice Carteron's Disappointing Tenure at Wydad Casablanca

Patrice Carteron's Short-Lived Management at Wydad Casablanca

Patrice Carteron's time as head coach of Wydad Casablanca was remarkably brief and marked by disappointing results. The French coach was dismissed from his position following a 1-2 home defeat to USYM during the 17th round of the Botola Pro, Morocco's premier football league. Appointed on March 24, 2026, Carteron’s tenure lasted just a month, during which he failed to achieve a single victory across five matches. His record included three losses and two draws, placing Wydad Casablanca in a precarious position in the league standings.

Under Carteron’s leadership, Wydad experienced a series of frustrating outcomes, including losses to FUS Rabat and MAS Fès, both by a score of 1-0, as well as a 1-2 defeat against El-Mansour. The team managed to secure only two draws, against Difaa El Jadida and KACM Marrakech, which contributed to their decline to fourth place in the league with 31 points, trailing behind MAS Fès, AS FAR, and Raja Casablanca.

In light of Carteron’s departure, Mohamed Benchrifa, a former defender for Wydad from 1997 to 2006, has stepped in as the interim manager. Benchrifa aims to steer the team back onto a successful path as the season progresses. Notably, another candidate for the managerial position, Nasreddine Nabi, declined the offer to take the reins immediately, citing insufficient time to implement his strategies given the upcoming match schedule. He expressed his willingness to consider the role at the end of the current season.
