Marrakech Elections: High Voter Participation and Eager Anticipation for Results
Since the polling stations opened, various neighborhoods in Marrakech have witnessed a surge of voters heading to the ballot boxes. This election marks a significant moment as candidates compete for representation in the national parliament. From the early hours of the polling stations’ opening, citizens have actively participated in the legislative elections, exercising their constitutional right to choose their representatives in the House of Representatives.
Citizens from all walks of life and age groups have flocked to the voting centers with a spirit of responsibility and determination, eager to contribute to the success of this pivotal electoral process, which plays a crucial role in reinforcing the democratic trajectory of the country and supporting the developmental dynamism evident across Morocco, particularly in the red city of Marrakech.
Many voters, especially the youth and women, expressed their satisfaction with the conditions surrounding this electoral event. In statements made to the Moroccan News Agency, they conveyed their commitment to ensuring a successful outcome while strictly adhering to the legal frameworks governing the voting process. One young voter, Mohammed, expressed his contentment with the smoothness of the voting experience and hoped that the political representative he trusted would address the aspirations and expectations of the youth.
In a similar vein, Samira Tayef, the head of the Rahma Center for Education and Training for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, also participated in the voting process. She praised the favorable conditions under which the elections are taking place and commended the efforts of the authorities to ensure the smooth organization of the voting process.
Another voter, Mohammed, highlighted the significant turnout at the polling stations, emphasizing that this mobilization reflects the citizens' commitment to exercising their right to vote. The Marrakech province consists of three electoral districts: the city district of Sidi Youssef Ben Ali (10 lists/3 seats), the Gueliz Nakhil district (13 lists/3 seats), and the Menara district (20 lists/3 seats).
At the regional level in Marrakech-Safi, 154 lists are competing for the 36 seats allocated to the region in the House of Representatives. These electoral lists are distributed across 10 electoral districts, including the three districts in the Marrakech province, as well as the districts in the Al-Haouz (14 lists/4 seats), Chichaoua (15 lists/4 seats), Safi (19 lists/6 seats), Qalaat Sraghna (16 lists/4 seats), Rhamna (17 lists/3 seats), Essaouira (18 lists/4 seats), and Youssoufia (12 lists/2 seats). Additionally, at the regional level, 17 regional lists are competing for 10 seats.
