Morocco's Call for Collaborative Migration Governance
During the recent plenary session of the second International Migration Review Forum held from May 5 to 8, Morocco emphasized the urgent need for a concerted and solidarity-based approach to international governance concerning migration issues. Representing the Kingdom, Mr. Ismail Chekkori, the Director of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, passionately advocated for leveraging this significant quadrennial event to enhance global commitment towards the 23 Objectives outlined in the Marrakech Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration.
In his address, Mr. Chekkori referenced a Royal Message delivered at the International Conference for the Adoption of the Marrakech Compact in 2018, wherein the Sovereign underscored that the Compact's true value lies in its effective implementation rather than serving as a mere formality. He reiterated that Morocco, in strict accordance with High Royal directives, has actively participated in realizing the Compact's objectives.
Mr. Chekkori highlighted that Morocco's approach is characterized by 'leadership by example' and the dissemination of best practices, as demonstrated through its involvement in the Champion Countries Network on Migration, a network that Morocco has proudly chaired since 2023.
