Mediterranean Awards 2026: Honoring Leaders in Development and Peace

Celebrating Excellence in the Mediterranean Region

On April 27, 2026, the prestigious Mediterranean Awards were presented in Fes, Morocco, to several distinguished individuals including the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amel Al-Falah Al-Sghroshini, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, represented by its High Representative Miguel Ángel Moratinos. This event was organized by the international organization "United World Nations" and its Mediterranean foundation, coinciding with the Euro-Mediterranean University meetings in Fes, focused on the theme "The Future of Human Civilization in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," and was held under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Recognizing Contributions to Development, Peace, and Innovation

The Mediterranean Awards aim to honor individuals from the Mediterranean basin for their outstanding contributions in the realms of development, peace, and innovation. This year, the awards were distributed across three categories: the "Development" award was bestowed upon Amel Al-Falah Al-Sghroshini, the "Peace and Moderation" award went to Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, and the "Institutions" award was awarded to the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

During the ceremony, Michel Kabasso, Secretary-General of the United World Nations, emphasized that the organization is recognizing men and women who embody ethical values and possess a visionary outlook, contributing to the service of peace and human dignity. He further highlighted the significance of this edition of the awards, given the historical context characterized by rapid technological transformations, ongoing geopolitical tensions, and the reconfiguration of political balances worldwide.

Kabasso asserted that addressing this challenging phase, marked by power struggles and self-interest, requires bolstering youth support and promoting the value of human commitment based on human intelligence, as a means of fostering communication among nations. Notably, the Mediterranean Award was established in 1995 by the United World Nations in partnership with the Mediterranean Foundation and the Mediterranean Academy, and it is awarded annually to political, religious, cultural, and artistic figures who have contributed to reducing tensions, enhancing cultural dialogue, and reinforcing shared values in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
