Marrakech Hosts the 2nd Economic Forum for Moroccans Worldwide Focused on Investment and Innovation

2nd Economic Forum for Moroccans Worldwide: A Platform for Investment and Innovation

The second edition of the Economic Forum for Moroccans Worldwide (MDM) opened on May 8, 2026, in Marrakech, under the theme of "Investment by Moroccans Worldwide and Innovation." This significant event brought together public decision-makers, investors, entrepreneurs, and experts, all focused on harnessing the economic, human, and strategic potential of the Moroccan diaspora. This year, the forum aims to highlight the contributions of Moroccans living abroad to the national economy, aligning with a productive investment strategy that creates value through their international experiences. Their expertise is critical in fostering innovation, essential for transforming the national economic landscape.

During the opening session, Karim Zidane, the Minister Delegate for Investment, Convergence, and Public Policy Evaluation, emphasized the strategic role that Moroccans worldwide play in the economic and social development of the Kingdom. He noted that, in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, efforts are being made to place the Moroccan diaspora at the center of the country's development project. This includes facilitating their investments, mobilizing their talents, and strengthening their unbreakable ties with the nation. Zidane remarked, "Moroccans worldwide are an economic force, a source of innovation, and today, more than ever, a transformative force." He highlighted the diaspora's high-level skills, robust international networks, and experience gained in some of the world's most competitive environments.

Furthermore, Zidane pointed out the initiatives aimed at encouraging investments from Moroccans worldwide into the Kingdom, mentioning ongoing efforts to simplify procedures, enhance visibility, consolidate the investment framework, and reduce timelines. Ismail Lamghari, the Secretary General of the Department for Moroccans Residing Abroad, acknowledged that this forum serves as a pivotal meeting point for Moroccan talent living abroad, reaffirming the commitment of all public stakeholders and ministerial departments to support Moroccans worldwide.

Lamghari elaborated on several programs launched for the Moroccan diaspora, both in their host countries and in Morocco. He highlighted the summer university program aimed at youth, which gathers young Moroccans from different countries annually, under the guidance of actors, researchers, and political leaders. He also pointed out that Morocco is currently engaged in a robust development process marked by numerous projects, notably in preparation for the 2030 World Cup, inviting Moroccans worldwide to contribute to this dynamic.

Amine Saad, President of the Moroccan World Trophies Foundation, added that this edition revolves around a central theme—investment and innovation by Moroccans worldwide. He stated that this theme reflects the shared ambition to transform the exceptional potential of Moroccans abroad into concrete projects, productive investments, and innovative initiatives that contribute to the Kingdom's development. Saad emphasized that Moroccans worldwide occupy key positions in strategic sectors, such as technology, finance, research, entrepreneurship, and future industries, and their expertise is a valuable asset that should be better mobilized, structured, and recognized.

"The goal is clear: to strengthen the bridges between Moroccan talent abroad and the opportunities available in Morocco to encourage investment, stimulate innovation, and enhance synergies between public and private actors," he affirmed. The forum's activities are organized into three panels addressing the themes of "Productive Investment and Innovation: The Strategic Impact of Moroccans Worldwide," "Mobilizing the Savings of Moroccans Worldwide: What Synergies Between Crowdfunding, Investment Funds, and Bank Financing," and "How Moroccans Worldwide Stimulate Regional Innovation and Investment." The forum will conclude with a ceremony awarding the Moroccan World Entrepreneurs Trophies, recognizing businesses established in Morocco by Moroccans living abroad or the expansions of their international enterprises on national soil.
