Marrakech Court Sentences Islamic Education Teacher to Eight Years for Sexual Assault

Sentence Delivered for Disturbing Case in Marrakech

The First Instance Criminal Chamber at the Court of Appeal in Marrakech has sentenced an Islamic education teacher to eight years in prison, alongside a fine for civil claimants. This ruling came after the chamber deliberated on the case and listened to the final statements from the accused and his defense team, as well as testimonies from the students who were victims of the assault.

The shocking details of this case originate from the region near Chichaoua, where local gendarmerie officials referred the teacher, who worked at an educational institution in the community of M'jato, to the public prosecutor in Marrakech. He was suspected of being involved in the sexual assault of two students at his home, having deceived the parents into believing he was offering them additional tutoring sessions.

This referral followed the teacher's period of police custody, during which he underwent investigative procedures regarding the allegations of raping two students. This was prompted by a complaint filed by the parents of the victims, who accused the teacher of assaulting their children. According to sources from "Code," the teacher exploited the situation of extra lessons to lure the two students and establish a relationship with them before ultimately deceiving them. One of the young victims confided in a parent, which led to the filing of a complaint that resulted in the teacher's arrest and subsequent placement in custody for further investigation. Authorities aimed to determine if there were additional victims among his students.
