Marrakech Council Meeting Focuses on Vital Development Issues
On Thursday morning, the first session of the regular May meeting of the Marrakech City Council commenced at the council's annex located on Mohammed VI Street. This session was dedicated to discussing eleven vital points concerning pressing developmental and managerial issues. The proceedings began with a report on the recent activities of the presidency, followed by a detailed presentation regarding the status of lawsuits filed against the council in recent months.
One of the most significant topics of discussion was the relocation of the passenger bus station from its historical site at Bab Doukkala to a new location in the Al-Azizia area. The council deliberated on the final arrangements for this transition, including the approval of management agreements with the local development company "Marrakech Traveler," and establishing the internal regulations that will govern access to and use of this crucial facility. Additionally, discussions included the conversion of the land previously designated for the poultry market in Al-Azizia into a large parking area for cars and bicycles, aimed at supporting the infrastructure of the new station and facilitating transportation.
Enhancing Urban Appeal and Sustainability Initiatives
In relation to the city's attractiveness and environmental concerns, members focused on reviewing quality partnership agreements under the "Marrakech Sustainable City" program. Notably, they discussed the project for rehabilitating the Al-Harthi Garden to transform it into a model smart space that utilizes modern management techniques. Another significant project under consideration is the development of a network of dedicated bicycle paths intended to promote clean transportation in the Red City.
The session concluded with a discussion on local taxes, where members reviewed amendments to the tax regulations concerning the fees and rights owed to the council, with plans to continue addressing the remaining points during the next session scheduled for the twenty-first of this month.
