On May 7, authorities in Morocco announced the deployment of significant land, air, and maritime resources as part of the ongoing search efforts for two U.S. military personnel who have gone missing in the country during the joint military exercises known as 'African Lion'. The Moroccan Armed Forces have mobilized various units, including the Royal Gendarmerie, the Royal Navy, the Atlas Hunters, and Military Engineering units, in a concerted effort to locate the missing servicemen, who were last seen near a cliff close to the training area at Cap Draa in the Tan Tan region.
According to reports from the Moroccan state news agency, MAP, the specialized search and rescue teams have been working tirelessly since May 2, conducting operations day and night to find the two missing American soldiers. The disappearance of the servicemen was confirmed on May 3 by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which announced the immediate initiation of a coordinated rescue operation that will include Moroccan forces as well as other nations participating in the exercises, involving over 5,600 personnel from more than 40 countries.
