Major Drug Trafficking Investigation Unfolds in Spain with Links to Morocco

National Court Takes Over Investigation of Drug Trafficking Network

The National Court of Spain has launched a thorough investigation into a suspected criminal organization involved in the trafficking of substantial quantities of hashish and other narcotics through a sophisticated drug tunnel connecting Morocco and Ceuta. Previously, this case was under the jurisdiction of the Ceuta Court but has now escalated to the National Court due to the complexity and scale of the operation. In a formal request, the presiding judge of the Central Investigative Court No. 6 has solicited a detailed report on the progress of the investigation, aimed at assessing the advancements made and determining whether additional investigative measures are necessary.

Judge Antonio Piña, overseeing the case, has confirmed the existence of a well-structured criminal organization that operates across multiple territories and maintains logistical ties to Morocco. The suspects are reportedly engaged in the storage, transport, and distribution of hashish and cocaine, utilizing high-speed motor vehicles and vessels. The organization has even constructed a tunnel designed to facilitate the clandestine movement of large quantities of hashish, demonstrating a high level of professionalism in their operations.

Seizures and Arrests Highlight the Scale of the Operation

At the helm of this network is Mustapha Chairi Brouzi, who orchestrates interconnected cells operating in various provinces of Spain. Under the direction of the Ceuta Court, law enforcement has confiscated a significant 1,139 kilograms of hashish and apprehended 12 individuals, all currently in provisional custody. Among those arrested is a retired Civil Guard officer named Ángel Albarracín, who is allegedly implicated in the organization’s activities. According to court documents, the Drug and Organized Crime Unit (UDYCO) tracked Chairi Brouzi and Albarracín meeting in a restaurant in April 2025 to discuss surveillance and intercepted communications.

The court's ruling details a series of drug-related transactions among the suspects, leading to the initiation of the investigation in Ceuta, which included the installation of geolocation and listening devices on the suspects' vehicles. A timeline of seizures from April 2025 to February of the following year underscores the operation's extensive reach, including the confiscation of 510 kilograms of hashish from one suspect’s residence and an impressive 15-ton seizure from a truck arriving from Nador on June 19, 2025. Subsequent operations continued to yield substantial quantities of hashish and significant amounts of cash, with the latest intervention on February 12, 2026, uncovering €668,270 linked to drug trafficking activities.

These developments highlight the intricate web of individuals involved in this trafficking network, including roles such as financing, logistics, and security. The ongoing investigation underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement to dismantle such organized crime syndicates that threaten public safety and contribute to the persistent drug crisis in the region. The situation continues to evolve as authorities work diligently to apprehend all involved and curb the flow of narcotics into Spain.
