Karim Mosta's Incredible Cycling Expedition: From Casablanca to Beijing

Karim Mosta's Remarkable Journey Across Continents

In a stunning display of endurance and adventure, Moroccan cyclist Karim Mosta has embarked on a breathtaking journey that takes him from the bustling streets of Casablanca to the vibrant city of Beijing. At the remarkable age of 70, Mosta accomplished this extraordinary feat in just seven months, cycling an impressive 15,000 kilometers across 15 countries. His journey was celebrated in a recently inaugurated photographic exhibition titled "Cycling on the Silk Road, from Morocco to China," held at the esteemed Hangzhou National Silk Museum. The exhibition showcases 50 captivating documentary photographs that encapsulate the essence of Mosta's expedition, which has been supported by the Moroccan Embassy in China.

A Journey Through Diverse Cultures

The adventure, which commenced in February 2024, saw Mosta traverse a remarkable route that included countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, and several others, ultimately reaching China. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was graced by the presence of notable figures, including Morocco’s Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, and various dignitaries from the National Silk Museum. Mosta expressed his heartfelt connections to the people and cultures he encountered along the way, cherishing the memories forged in each nation. He proudly represented Morocco throughout the journey, viewing it as a tribute to the legendary 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta, who also journeyed to China during his travels.

This remarkable cycling expedition is just one of many achievements for Mosta, whose previous long-distance rides include a journey from Casablanca to Mecca in 2019 and another from Amsterdam to Dakar in 2022. Looking ahead, Mosta is gearing up for his next challenge, which will take him from San Francisco to New York, starting on June 7. This upcoming journey aims to support Morocco's national team in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup and to promote the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host. The Hangzhou National Silk Museum has also extended an invitation to Morocco as the guest of honor for the upcoming Silk Road Week, an annual event that commemorates the Silk Road's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2014.
