Recent revelations from Samir Koudar, the head of the organizing sector of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) and president of the Marrakech-Safi region, have ignited significant tensions within the party, particularly in the Rhamna province. This discord was notably aggravated by rumors of parliamentary member Abdelatif Al-Zaim's resignation from PAM, which circulated shortly after Koudar's statements during an internal meeting at the home of Mohamed Chaqiq, the head of the Sidi Ibrahim Oasis municipality.
During the meeting, Koudar expressed the party's ambition to nominate its ministers in a bid to secure parliamentary seats, specifically mentioning the intention to nominate the Minister of Higher Education, Azeddine Midaoui from Taounate, for the Rhamna electoral district. This decision was reportedly made following requests from various party leaders in the region. However, this announcement has led to considerable unrest within PAM, as sources revealed that Koudar's remarks angered Al-Zaim and several other party leaders and activists in Rhamna, an area known to be a stronghold for PAM.
Sources indicate that the Rhamna branch of PAM has been experiencing discontent for some time, and Koudar's comments merely exacerbated existing frustrations. Many members from Ben Guerir and its surrounding areas feel disillusioned with the party's performance, expressing disappointment over what they perceive as neglect of the Rhamna region compared to the advancements made in other areas of the Marrakech-Safi region.
Additionally, the conflict between Koudar and Al-Zaim predates the nomination announcement of Midaoui, stemming from ongoing criticisms from Al-Zaim regarding the performance of the Marrakech-Safi council and his repeated protests advocating for the implementation of projects in the region where he has lived and invested for many years.
However, according to our sources, the rumors surrounding Al-Zaim's resignation from PAM are unfounded, describing the speculations as mere gossip that emerged following Koudar's announcement regarding Midaoui's candidacy in Rhamna.
Moreover, it has been confirmed that Koudar's decision did not only upset Al-Zaim but also angered other party leaders and activists in Rhamna, particularly due to his choice of a candidate who is not a native of the region. This decision has raised concerns, as Rhamna is recognized as a PAM stronghold filled with local talent and competencies that deserve to be nominated for elections over candidates from other regions.
