Hyundai Motor Partners with KOICA to Enhance Marrakech's Public Transport
Hyundai Motor has announced an exciting initiative to supply approximately 15 electric buses to Morocco, marking a significant step in the country's commitment to sustainable transportation. This project, developed in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is part of an official development assistance (ODA) program aimed at enhancing public transport in Marrakech, the historic city that once served as the imperial capital of Morocco.
The handover ceremony took place at Hyundai's manufacturing facility in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, where officials from both KOICA and the Moroccan Embassy in South Korea gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion. As the first South Korean-made electric buses to be introduced in Morocco, these Elec City buses are set to operate on routes that connect major tourist attractions across Marrakech, thereby facilitating the city’s transition toward a more environmentally friendly public transport system.
Alongside the buses, Hyundai will also provide fast chargers and essential equipment, as well as local training and technical support to ensure effective vehicle operation and maintenance. The initial delivery includes two already manufactured buses, while the remaining 13 are expected to be handed over during a ceremony in Marrakech scheduled for the first quarter of next year. Park Cheol-yeon, an executive at Hyundai, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering eco-friendly commercial mobility solutions tailored to the diverse driving conditions in various regions, thereby contributing to the development of a sustainable transportation environment.
