Agadir's Urban Transport Revolution
On May 7, 2026, Agadir, the capital of Souss, achieved a significant milestone in urban modernization with the official launch of its first high-level service bus line, known as the "Amalway TRAMBUS." This initiative, part of the Urban Development Program (PDU) and spearheaded by the Agadir Mobilité public development company, provides a practical alternative to private vehicle travel, addressing the growing need for efficient public transport in the region.
Equipped with dedicated bus lanes, the TRAMBUS system ensures remarkable punctuality and high frequency, facilitating rapid transit even during peak hours. This was highlighted in a statement from the French Embassy in Rabat, which underscored the importance of the project in enhancing urban mobility.
Technical Innovations and Passenger Comfort
The strategically designed route connects the Port of Agadir to the Tikiouine neighborhood, featuring 35 modern stations equipped with real-time passenger information systems. The fleet consists of air-conditioned vehicles that are accessible and secured with video surveillance, ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience. Additionally, an electronic ticketing system has been implemented to streamline the boarding process, making it more convenient for users.
Beyond its role in transportation, the Amalway project serves as a catalyst for urban renewal. The deployment of this system has led to the renovation of major thoroughfares, the widening of sidewalks, and the creation of new green spaces, effectively reclaiming public space for pedestrians and enhancing the city's appeal as a tourist destination.
Designed to be the backbone of Greater Agadir's transportation network, the TRAMBUS is seamlessly integrated with existing bus lines. This project, technically and financially supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), exemplifies Morocco's commitment to sustainable mobility and the ongoing improvement of its citizens' quality of life.
