Upcoming Extreme Heat Conditions in Morocco
A significant heat wave is set to affect various provinces in Morocco from Tuesday, July 28, until Saturday, August 1. The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange alert, indicating that temperatures are expected to soar between 45°C and 47°C in regions such as Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Aousserd from Wednesday, July 29, to Friday, July 31.
Furthermore, other provinces, including Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Béni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Khénifra, Taounate, Ouezzane, Taroudant, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, and El Kelaâ des Sraghna, will experience high temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C between Thursday, July 30, and Saturday, August 1. The heat is anticipated to start affecting areas like Zagora, Tata, and Assa-Zag as early as Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 45°C to 47°C on that day.
On Wednesday, July 29, regions such as Fquih Ben Salah, Taroudant, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, and Béni Mellal are expected to register temperatures between 42°C and 45°C. The following days will see similar temperatures impacting Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan from Thursday, July 30, to Friday, July 31, and later spreading to Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Khémisset, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Guercif, and Taza on July 31 and August 1. Additionally, Essaouira and Sidi Ifni will experience temperatures between 39°C and 42°C on Thursday, July 30.
