Strengthening Bilateral Trade Relations

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry of Ghana, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, is currently undertaking a pivotal three-day official visit to Morocco, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade relations and exploring new investment opportunities between the two nations. This significant visit, which commenced on Monday, May 3, 2026, includes high-level discussions with Morocco’s Minister of Investments, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, Karim Zidane, highlighting the commitment both countries share towards economic collaboration.

During these discussions, Minister Ofosu-Adjare expressed her gratitude for the warm invitation extended by Moroccan authorities, reiterating Ghana's dedication to fortifying its economic ties with Morocco. She particularly emphasized the importance of collaboration in key sectors such as the automobile and agro-processing industries. As part of her speech, she acknowledged Morocco’s substantial contributions to the advancement of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and urged for the elimination of non-tariff barriers to enable smoother trade flows between the two nations.

Opportunities for Economic Growth

Minister Ofosu-Adjare also highlighted Ghana’s flagship initiative known as the 24-Hour Economy policy, which aims to serve as a catalyst for industrial growth and attract potential investors. In response to her remarks, Minister Zidane cited the historic visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Ghana in 2017 as a pivotal moment that significantly enhanced bilateral relations and laid the groundwork for increased economic cooperation. He encouraged Ghana to amplify its export volumes to Morocco in order to address the existing trade imbalance and suggested the urgent organization of a Business and Investment Forum in Ghana to expedite the establishment of partnerships.

Furthermore, the Ghanaian delegation engaged in a productive meeting with Mr. Omar Hejira, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Trade, where the focus remained on expanding trade collaboration. Minister Hejira underscored Ghana’s status as a strategic trading partner and articulated that Minister Ofosu-Adjare's visit presents a remarkable opportunity to elevate the existing trade relations. He shared valuable insights into Morocco’s robust economic growth, pointing out strong performances across various vital sectors including renewable energy, port infrastructure, finance, pharmaceuticals, human capital development, along with the automobile and aviation industries, all showcasing the potential for increased collaboration.
