Strategic Symposium on Food Industries in Meknes
On April 24, 2026, Meknes will host the inaugural "Meknes Agricultural Business Day," organized by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of the Fes-Meknes region in collaboration with the Regional Economic Forum. This event will take place alongside the International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM 2026) and aims to foster a strategic dialogue about the future of the food industry and its developmental prospects. The symposium is expected to draw significant attention as SIAM has evolved into a major continental platform, attracting over 1,500 exhibitors and 70 foreign delegations, with an anticipated visitor count exceeding 1.1 million, underscoring Morocco's pivotal role in the agricultural sector and related industries.
The food industry has emerged as one of the leading engines of the national economy, especially amidst the profound transformations reshaping production and trade in a global economy that is increasingly interconnected. This scenario resembles a "global village" where competition is fierce and market rules are incessantly evolving. Thus, enhancing the competitiveness of the food sector is crucial, focusing on three primary axes: improving product quality and production standards, diversifying domestic markets to bolster national consumption, and strengthening integration into global value chains, which will elevate export levels and enhance the visibility of Moroccan products in international markets.
Emphasizing Export Growth and Technological Innovation
During the discussions, there will be a strong emphasis on the necessity of boosting exports through the adoption of modern technologies in production and marketing. Additionally, innovative support mechanisms will be developed to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives, which are considered fundamental pillars of the agricultural economic fabric. Discussions will also revolve around the potential creation of a consolidation mechanism aimed at standardizing agricultural and industrial offerings by purchasing products from small businesses while providing support in areas such as quality, marketing, and exporting, thereby enhancing their ability to penetrate international markets, particularly those in Africa.
Moreover, it has been highlighted that Morocco possesses significant export potential estimated at around 120 billion dirhams. However, enhancing this performance is contingent upon strengthening the export insurance system, improving logistical infrastructure, and adopting a regional approach to exporting that positions regions—especially Fes-Meknes—as active centers in export and distribution operations. This dynamic aligns with strategic aims to support productive economies, enhance food sovereignty, and increase the added value of local products, with an emphasis on integrating cooperative economies into production and marketing chains.
Through this initiative, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of the Fes-Meknes region aspires to solidify Meknes’ status as a regional and national hub for agricultural business by fostering an extensive dialogue among economic stakeholders, decision-makers, investors, and experts regarding challenges related to innovation, financing, marketing, and internationalization. Consequently, the "Meknes Agricultural Business Day" represents a significant opportunity to establish the Fes-Meknes region as a promising economic center in the food industry while redefining the contours of the agricultural model.
