Severe Heat Wave to Affect Moroccan Regions
A significant heat wave is set to envelop various regions of Morocco, with temperatures soaring as high as 47°C from Tuesday through Saturday. This alarming forecast comes from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), which has issued an orange-level weather alert, signaling the potential dangers associated with such extreme heat.
During this period, the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Aousserd will experience the peak of the heat wave, with temperatures likely to range between 45°C and 47°C from Wednesday to Friday. Moreover, another oppressive heat spell, with temperatures fluctuating between 42°C and 45°C, is anticipated from Thursday to Saturday in several areas, including Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Khénifra, Taounate, Ouezzane, Taroudant, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, and El Kelaa des Sraghna.
In addition to these alarming forecasts, hot weather conditions are expected to persist, with temperatures reaching between 45°C and 47°C on Tuesday in Zagora, Tata, and Assa-Zag. The DGM has also predicted that areas like Fquih Ben Salah, Taroudant, El Kelaa des Sraghna, and Beni Mellal will see temperatures in the range of 42°C to 45°C on Wednesday, with similar conditions projected for Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan from Thursday to Friday. The intense heat is forecasted to affect Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Khémisset, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Guercif, and Taza on Friday and Saturday, with temperatures within the same high range.
Meanwhile, coastal cities such as Essaouira and Sidi Ifni are not exempt from the heat, as they are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 39°C to 42°C on Thursday. Residents and visitors in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health and well-being during this extreme weather event.
