Dismantling of a Major International Drug Syndicate in Oran
In a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized crime, the regional anti-organized crime unit (SRLCO) in Oran successfully dismantled a sophisticated international drug trafficking network that operated between Morocco and Europe. This operation led to the seizure of approximately 84 kilograms of hard drugs, specifically cocaine, and the arrest of 13 individuals linked to the syndicate, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security.
The investigations, which spanned over a month of meticulous fieldwork and operational inquiries, allowed the authorities to thwart an attempt to smuggle a substantial shipment of cocaine. In the initial phase of the operation, two suspects were apprehended in Oran while in possession of three kilograms and 457 grams of cocaine, cleverly concealed within a tourist vehicle.
Following the arrests, the authorities were able to identify and detain an additional 11 members of the network, leading to the discovery of a second shipment of hard drugs weighing around 80 kilograms, which was also securely hidden inside another vehicle. This operation, conducted under the supervision of the competent judicial authority, also resulted in the recovery of a significant amount of cash amounting to 147 million Algerian dinars, as well as various sums in euros and Moroccan dirhams. Additionally, ten cars and one motorcycle, believed to have been used in illegal activities, were confiscated.
The suspects were presented to the public prosecutor at the specialized penal pole in Oran on May 6, 2026, as the authorities continue to intensify their efforts against drug-related crimes and trafficking networks that pose a threat to societal safety.
